How It All Began

The therapeutic benefits of petting dogs is highly regarded and can increase well-being and reduce stress and anxiety in humans. Founder Caroline Leather wanted to share the benefits that she gains from her own affectionate pack of long-haired Chihuahuas; born and raised in her living room. This is when the concept of a home from home interactive chihuahua experience with lounge seating, coffee, cakes and cuddles was born.

How do I book my experience?

You can book your experience via our website, by selecting the number of people, the date and time that you wish to book for, then you simply add your personal details such as full name, phone number and email, and pay the experience fee via our website. To book your experience now click here.

Can I bring my own dog with me?

We love all dogs but on this occasion please leave your furry friends at home. We provide free roaming Chihuahuas for you to fuss, cuddle and play with.

Why do I pay for my session?

We are an experience, much like a zoo or an aquarium. In order for us to be able to exhibit animals, we have to possess specific qualifications and adhere to strict animal welfare and licensing laws. We continually offer our beloved pack the very best in diet and medical care and personally care for them 24 hours a day 365 days a year. All this would not be possible without you.

Can I buy refreshments?

We really want you to relax, make yourself at home and unwind so we offer high quality Barista coffee, specialty teas and soft drinks and freshly prepared artisan cakes.

Do the dogs get left at the cafe overnight?

No the dogs come home with us every night and are spoiled rotten.

Can I buy a gift voucher?

Gift vouchers are a great way to buy someone an experience they will remember. Gift vouchers can be e-mailed out, posted out, or delivered locally. Collection from the cafe is also possible by arrangement, in-between the session times.

Do you serve alcohol?

No we don’t as we cannot have anyone under the influence of alcohol around the dogs

Can I come without booking?

Booking is strongly advised as we run set times and only admit 10 people per session.

Why do you not allow children under 6?

Chihuahuas are the smallest dogs in the world and are therefore vulnerable to injury and can become fearful. For the safety of the dogs (and children) we cannot accept children under the age of 6. Children between the age of 6 and 12 are very welcome but must be accompanied by an adult so that they can be supervised.

Can I bring my own dogs treats to feed the dogs?

Please don’t bring your own treats as one of the dogs has allergies. We will provide you with suitable treats.

Do you serve hot food?

We serve an extensive bakery menu with snacks such as pastries, cakes and brownies but we do not cook or prepare any hot food on site.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. The Chihuahua Lounge caters for a variety of special dietary requirements. There are gluten free options on the snack menu as well as vegan beverages with dairy alternatives such as soya and almond milk. There is also food available that does not contain nuts.

How do I get to you?

The cafe is located 5 minutes drive from Harrogate town centre and there is ample free disk parking on the opposite side of the road in the residential area via Roseville Road or Birstwith Road. If you do not have a parking disk you can pull up and collect one from the cafe and you do not need to return it.

The cafe is located a pleasant 20-minute flat walk from Harrogate town centre.

There are 4 very regular bus services from both Harrogate and Knaresborough town centres (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D) that stop right by the cafe every 10 minutes on a Saturday and every 20 minutes on a Sunday.

Can I change my booking?

Yes. If you provide at least 48 hours notice so that your place can be re-filled. Just e-mail woof@thechihuahualounge.co.uk with your existing Booking Name, Date, and Time, and the date and time you would like to change to.

Do you offer refunds?

No. We do not offer change of mind refunds, all purchases are final.

What happens if I am late to my session?

Much like going to the cinema, or going on a plane, you choose the time and date that suits you, it is your responsibility to attend, and arrive on time. We cannot extend your time, as that would not be fair to the guests in the session after you, nor is your session transferrable to another time slot. Once you have booked your session, you must attend that session only. If you provide 48 hours notice, and something has come up, we can reschedule you to another date and time where available.

Do the dogs enjoy being at the cafe?

Our dogs love human attention and we have made sure that the cafe is a home from home for them. They also have their own private room where they are free to wander in and out as they please. We do not force our dogs to be in the lounge area with our guests. When the dogs are in the lounge space, they are there out of choice, and we intend to always keep it that way.

Our dogs also have weekly health checks which involves noting any signs of potential illness and we conduct behavioural studies on each dog regularly to ensure their behaviour in the cafe demonstrates that of a happy and relaxed dog - if it does not, we take them out of the cafe environment.

We have a set of house rules to protect the dogs welfare that have to be adhered to by all guests. Any guest who is seen breaking the rules will be asked to leave. We also limit the capacity of our cafe to ensure the dogs are not overcrowded.
